School of Graduate Studies holds a Public Lecture

 

Ethiopian Civil Service University School of Graduate Studies conducted a half day Public lecture on Development: The Concept, Models and Concerns on March 15, 2012.The Public lecture was attended by directors, department heads, instructors and students. Professor S.K.Singh, Lecturer at Institute of Public Management –Department of Public management was the speaker at the public lecture.

Ato Tilahun Fekade, Director of School of Graduates Studies said in the occasion that the public lecture is the first of the open academic dialogues scheduled to be held by the school. He further said in addition to such kinds of events organized at institutes and departments level, the school has planned to regularly hold on the series of the public lectures once a month. Ato Tilahun thanked Professor Singh for his willingness to be the first inaugural speaker of the public lecture.

Professor S.K.Singh discussed the meaning of Development from different perspectives. Different models of development were tried after World War II period beginning with the westernization model. However the autonomous model which asserts that each country has to develop indigenous model of its own to suit the local needs and aspirations has been successful, according to Professor S.K.Singh. Professor S.K.Singh pointed out the development concerns for anybody and everybody. They are whose development, development at whose cost, development at what cost, and which model of development.

The participants finally raised their concerns in the modern trends of development and asked different questions. Professor S.K.Singh reacted on the issues and answered the questions raised by the participants.
