Description
The program aims at developing the skills of Foreign Service officers to better appreciate the dynamics of modern diplomatic practice. The modules are carefully crafted and delivered by experts and professionals from various fields of endeavor, given the multi-disciplinary nature of the program. A systems approach shall be adopted in line with continuous learning philosophy to keep abreast of global trends in the field. The program also envisages extensive collaboration with key stakeholders including similar academic Institutions. The overall goal of the program is to provide participants with requisite knowledge and skills with a view to enhancing their capacity to:
- serve the country as competent diplomats;
- advise on contemporary diplomacy and international issues;
- negotiate effectively; and
- Participate effectively in advancement of the foreign/national policy of Ethiopia.
Prerequisites & Requirements
In order to participate in the program, candidates:
- must be a university graduate of high academic and moral standing (at least 3.0 GPA or its equivalent in undergraduate study from a recognized university);
- must take entrance exam prepared specifically to join the program and successfully pass within the required margin of available vacancies;
- must respect and renew commitments to the FDRE Constitution
will be bounded for a minimum period (to be specified in the commitment contract) to serve at Ethiopia’s MFA, missions abroad, and other relevant institutions after graduating from the program
Exit Level Outcomes
After completing the study program, the graduate is able to:
- Analyze the concepts, theories, and approaches in contemporary diplomacy and international relations in light of contemporary global and regional issues, foreign policies and strategies, and diplomatic communications and documents;
- Respect principles and rules governing inter-state relations, international organizations, and African inter-state organizations;
- Consolidate Ethiopia’s international and regional image in close keeping with its core
- values and national interests;
- Carry out international negotiations with skill and confidence;
- Competently advice diplomatic initiatives in line with the country’s foreign policy and national security priorities;
- Apply the appropriate diplomatic procedures in the discharge of the official functions;
- Solve problems in international crisis situations with confidence.

Other stakeholders
International organizations and employees of foreign missions based in Addis Ababa. As Addis Ababa is the seat of the African Union (AU), the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), many other international organizations such as IGAD and COMESA, the program can attract employees of those organizations. Addis Ababa is also a diplomatic hub for embassies of several countries of the world, including almost all the fifty-four African nations
