Description

The commitment to realize rapid economic growth and sustainable development developed as well as developing countries requires dealing with social problems and well-being of the society. Despite interventions had become more targeted and tailored to meet the needs of specific diverse groups, there is a need to incorporate social analysis into the process of policy design and implementation. This gives rise to the current notion that social policy should be concerned with a broader encompassing approach, not merely for alleviating immediate crisis, but more importantly, in providing collective interventions directly affecting transformations in social welfare, social institutions and social relations and access to adequate and secure livelihoods and income.

The MA in Social Policy thus aims to provide students with a solid critical awareness, knowledge, and competence in appreciating not only economic options, but also opportunities to involve in researching, formulating, analyzing and delivering social policies that lead to effective, appropriate and sustainable social wellbeing that uphold social justices, humanitarian and ethical principles, particularly through comparative research and understanding of policy and development issues and trends in local and global perspective.

A social problem is an issue within the society all over the world that makes it difficult for people to achieve their full potential. Those social problems which weaken social cohesion and negatively affect both social development and economic growth of nations are poverty and income inequality, unemployment and employment discrimination, unequal opportunity and racism, substandard housing, malnutrition and child abuse, child labor, crime, substandard social services, etc. The process of overcoming these problems requires sound and effective social policies which depend on the availability of skilled human power in the field who formulate, implement, evaluate and analyze social policies. Hence, the MA program in Social Policy has a considerable importance for the country to achieve the goal of reaching middle income country by addressing the challenging social problems.
