Description

Objectives:

The BSc. Program in Urban Planning was conceived due to the high demand for planners which often is generated from the real Ethiopian urban context. The program focuses on planning as a process for improving collective decisions in the public and private sectors. The planning process includes analyzing problems, designing alternative solutions and evaluating their consequences, developing strategies for action and participating in their implementation.

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) program in Urban planning at Ethiopian Civil University attracts civil servants who are interested in and concerned with the: Physical, economic, social and political forces which shape cities and regions;  Financial, environmental, legal, cultural and historical aspects of urban development processes; and Design and conservation of the built environment.

 

Prerequisites & Requirements

In addition to any one of thefollowing three requirements, theapplicant must successfully pass the entrance exam prepared by the college.

  1. Complete 12th grade in the former curriculum with aminimum GPA of 2.0 in Ethiopian School leaving CertificateExamination (ESLCE) with no less than a “C” grade in English, Mathematics, and Physics.
  2. Complete preparatory education and scored the universit enterance set by the Ministry of Education.
  3. A civil servant with having a recommendation from respective region or employing organization.
  4. Pass an entrance exam given by the University
     

Exit Level Outcomes

Graduate Profiles: BSc Urban Planning

After the completion of the program, the graduates are expected to be professional urban planners competent to perform the following major duties and activities:

  • Acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills of data collection, analysis,  organization, synthesis and presentation for urban planning purposes
  • Preparation of project proposals for Urban development plans
  • Coordinate and Guide the preparation of long, medium and short term urban development plans
  • Control, monitor and evaluate the implementation of urban development plans prepare and coordinate the revision of development plans of urban areas
  • Coordinate and participate in the designing of residential buildings, health centers, schools, commercial and office building complexes and other similar structures
  • Coordinate and participate in the designing of residential buildings, health centers,schools, commercial and office building complexes and other similar structures
  • Coordinate and participate in the designing of public spaces, streets, squares, boulevards, and other relevant public structures.
  • Prepare Social and physical Infrastructural plans
  • Preparation of guidelines for the implementation of urban development plans
