Description

The Master of Science in Accounting & Finance program is designed to meet the growing demand for qualified professionals in the complex business environment of Ethiopia. This two-year program addresses the need for skilled personnel in both public and private sectors, driven by the rapid economic development and ongoing reforms in the Ethiopian public sector. The program aims to build the capacity of graduates to support sustainable economic growth through advanced training in accounting and finance practices.

Program Profile:
Graduates of the M.Sc. in Accounting & Finance are prepared to contribute to Ethiopia's economic development and democratization through their expertise. They will be equipped to work in higher education, research institutions, and both private and government organizations. Specifically, graduates are expected to:
• Assume functional responsibilities in sectors requiring accountability and transparency.
• Advance to higher-level positions in accounting, auditing, and financial management.
• Analyze advanced cost and managerial accounting reports to inform top-level management decisions.
• Conduct tax analysis for public and private firms.
• Plan audits and design internal control systems.
• Analyze, design, and implement financial and non-financial systems.
• Manage treasury functions, conduct portfolio analysis, and make informed investment decisions.
• Develop project proposals and systems for monitoring and evaluation.
• Formulate and implement policies and strategies related to accounting and finance.
• Create and manage new ventures.
• Conduct rigorous business research.

Prerequisites & Requirements

To be admitted to the program, candidates must:
• Successfully complete an undergraduate program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Pass the entrance examination conducted by the University.
• Obtain a recommendation from their employer with an official letter.

Upon completion, graduates are expected to:
• Function effectively in any sector with accountability and transparency.
• Hold advanced positions in accounting, auditing, and financial management.

The program is designed for public sector employees with academic backgrounds in Public Financial Management, Accounting, Auditing, Budgeting, and related fields, as approved by the ECSU Curriculum and Academic Standards Committee.
