Abstract | This article tried to analyse the problem of corruption in Chiro Town in Oromia
Region with a framework within which the problem of corruption may be analysed.
The objective is to provide a structure for the analysis of the determinants of
corruption, emphasising the environment in which corruption evolves. The article
was done on 204 sample respondents, selected randomly from 455 sample frames
from all occupational sectors. This study used perception indicators to assess the
respondent’s opinions on the quality governance in Chiro town , whereby the quality
of governance assessed using 34 indicators grouped under five core principles of
good governance:- transparency, accountability, participation, rule of law, and
effectiveness and efficiency. The result revealed that the quality of governance in
Chiro town is very poor which can contribute significantly to high level of
corruption.
