Description

Objectives:

After successfully fulfilling the requirements of the two-year (Master of Arts) Urban Land
Development and Management degree module, graduates will have acquired thorough knowledgeof urban development and management acquainted with the practices in practices in differentcountries and localized contexts and to appreciate the various scale levels and interfaces in thefield.

Specific Objectives By the end of the program, students will have acquired:

  • Knowledge of the diverse contexts and dynamics of urbanization in industrialized anddeveloping economies in respect of the impacts or urbanization on urban land development and management;
  • Insights for planning spatial interventions and strategies through the analysis of the spatialphenomena dominating contemporary land development and management practices;
  • Proactive attitudes that promote professionalism for the efficient and effective
    implementation of the sector-wide land development and management policies andstrategies;
  • The knowledge and skills to enable them to participate in scientific research pertinent to thetopical land development and management issues.
  •  Knowledge & skill in the Urban Land Management & Development policies

Prerequisites & Requirements

  1. In order to secure admission to the Master’s degree programme in Urban Land Development and Management, the applicant must:
  2. Be a public servant with two or more years of employment experience and demonstrate relevant practical or field experience.
  3. Pass the entrance examination set under the auspices of the Ethiopian Civil Service University.
  4. Have a BA/BSc degree from a recognized university in Urban Planning, Urban Management, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Architecture Urban engineering, economics, LIS, GIS, Infrastructure, Land administration and/or other land related disciplines.

  • Design land development and management system that uses the land resource efficientlythrough the accurate interpretation and implementation of the relevant statutory provisionsand allied instruments.
  • Apply and evaluate the urban land development and management system differenthierarchies of urban administration
  • Devise and implement effective urban land administration system involving variousstakeholders.
  • Enrich the urban land registration system by collecting, organizing, retrieval, analysis,interpretation and dissemination of urban real property data using Land Information System.
  •  Apply the principles, concepts and theories of urban land use planning in response to thecurrent socio-economic and environmental needs, challenges and opportunities of urbanEthiopia.
  • Conduct independent and team based research addressing the contemporary challenges ofurban land development, administration and management practices in order to provideinputs for policy makers and strategists.
  • Evaluate and design appropriate land and real estate valuation practices using the relevantproperty valuation principles, methods and tools.
  •  Engage, negotiate and communicate with various stakeholders involved in the process ofurban land development and management.
  • Design, implement and revise land value recapture system.
  • Analyze and evaluate urban land policies and strategies.
