Basic concept of Gender
Topic: Basic Concept of Gender
Background: Gender is an important social stratification that significantly shapes the lived experiences of men and women across different age groups, ethnicity, social-status, religions and so forth. Gender is not about women; rather gender is about the power relation between men and women. In a patriarchal society, gender relations favour men as they inhibit higher statuses than women, which is manifested in allocation of roles and responsibilities, access to and control over resources, rights and so forth. Thus, this training intends to unpack concepts related to gender. Participants will engage in several practical exercises and examples to think critically and to question the exiting gender order in our society.

- explain gender ideology and its influences on lived experiences of men and women
- explain how gender socialisation produce and reproduced the dominant gender ideology

- describe different conceptions of gender lenses and their implication
