Training

Gender and Development

Topic: Gender and Development

Background: Despite the long assumption that development is gender neutral, by now, the notion that gender matters in development has gain wide recognition. Particularly, in the case of developing countries such as Ethiopia where gender inequality remains important and the gender gap in social, political and economic arenas is still wide, understanding and investigating ways in which gender is considered as integral parts of national development is essential. • explain gender and related concepts
  • explore the concept of development (its origin, history and contemporary discourses)
  • inspect the linkage between gender and development and evolution of gender and development approaches

Content: Includes – gender related concepts; gender and poverty; development trajectories; gender needs in development; development approaches to gender and/or women in development (- welfare, equity, antipoverty, efficiency, empowerment), gender and development (contents will be adopted based on organisational context and interest).
