Gender Based Violence and Sexual Harassment
Topic: Gender Based Violence / Violence Against Women
Background: Despite growing understanding that Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is violation of human rights, it remains a main threat that women in all walks of life have encountered in daily basis. The training adopts a comprehensive approach to understand the issues surrounding GBV such as power relations, culture and tradition and socio-economic factors. Participants will be introduced to magnitude of GBV and its consequences with the help of national and international figures.
Objectives: At the end of the training, trainees are able to
- define and describe different types and forms of GBV
- explain causes and impacts of GBV on women and national wellbeing in general
- identify different approaches in preventing and responding to GBV, including mainstreaming and specific actions on GBV
Content: Include - types and forms of GBV; understanding GBV –causes, contributing factors and impacts; situation of GBV in Ethiopia; and approaches to address gender based violence – prevention and responses (contents will be adopted based on organisational context and interest).
