2011/12 New Students’ Orientation
The Ethiopian Civil Service University Institute of Leadership and Good Governance welcome all new students of the Institute on October 7, 2011. The key goal of the orientation program is to make sure that all new students are aware of the university and the institute rules,regulations, procedures, processes in advance and to gain information about their courses,before they start their classes.
In his Opening Speech, Dr.Hailemichael Aberra, President of the University said
" that to make the leadership role successful in the country’s civil service, educated man power, which can lead and take responsibilities at all levels, is very important."
He added if there is no leader in an organization or country level, we can not plan and organize what we are thinking. Leaders play a great role in achieving what we are planning. So building their capacity is given due attention.
Finally, Dr. Hailemichael said even if you are from different backgrounds, there should be a rationale and purpose on what you are doing and you need to know, understand and implement it. Our university is one of the higher learning institutes which strive to make quality and competent civil servants in the country, says Dr. Hailemichael.
In this orientation program Ato Ermias Wonde, Admission and Registration Office Head gave a brief explanation on the university admission requirement and registration procedure.
In related development, Centre for Public Policy Studies arranged orientation program and welcome and congratulates the new students on October 7, 2011.
Dr. Derege Terefe, Director at Centre for Public Policy Studies said that
" such kind of orientation will help students to become familiar with the university academic programs, and the many services that are available to student. "
Dr. Dereje added one of the most important thing students should always know and remember during their stay at the university is his/ her purpose of learning. Dr. Dereje finally urged the new students to experiment, take intellectual risks and challenge themselves by taking courses that are new to them.
Ato Atakilt Hagos, Lecturer at the Centre made a brief presentation on the courses to be offered, mode of delivery and assessment strategies. Two research papers were presented by Dr. Dereje and Ato Atakilt to initiate the students.
