Academic Staff Discusses on the New Education and Training Road-map
Ethiopian Civil Service University Academic Staff held a discussion on the new Ethiopian Education and Training Roadmap, aimed at reforming the current educational system of the country, on October 15, 2018. The Discussion was held in line with the plan of Ministry of Education to open discussion on the road-map with universities, colleges and TVET teachers and academic community to reach at a common understanding to utilize it and gain additional inputs from scholars for the improvement of the roadmap.
On the program an overview of the roadmap was presented to the participants by ECSU scholars and discussion was conducted in four groups. According to the presentation, absence of quality and competent teachers, the infrastructure problems and inadequate tools have been identified as major challenges of the current educational system of the country. In order to alleviate these and other related problems, the roadmap aims at curbing the shortfalls that have been identified in the current system while it proposes major changes in the overall implementation of the sectors and restructuring of the ministry as well. It is also noted that the roadmap is expected to reform the structure, governance and managerial systems in higher education and human resource development by increasing access to higher education.
The roadmap is prepared based on the study underwent by involving various parts of public institutions and sets direction in the educational sectors and expected to play an important role in ensuring quality education in Ethiopia.
Pre-primary and Primary Education , Secondary and Preparatory Education , Teachers Preparation and Development , Higher Education , Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) , Policy, Governance and Leadership were the major focus area given special consideration in the road map.
Participants of the discussion on their part said that the current road-map is different from the existing educational system in many ways and it is expected to play a decisive role in realizing quality education in the country. They also forwarded their ideas, comments and suggestions that they supposed to be included in the roadmap.
