APD Organizes Orientation Program
Ethiopian Civil Service University Academic Program Directorate organized a training and orientation program to students who joined the university in 2020/21 academic year from February 23- 24, 2021 at Abay Hall. On the two days program all new-entry first and second degree students participated.
In his welcoming speech, Professor Fikre Dessalegn, Ethiopian Civil Service University president, congratulated the students for their remarkable achievements in passing the university’s entrance examination and joining the university. He also briefed about the well-facilitated teaching learning environment in ECSU and advised them to use this opportunity in a wisely manner. Due to the occurrence of the COVID 19, the starting time of the academic year has been delayed by months and this academic year has been rescheduled in five months from the usual eight months. This demands the students’ immense engagements and unreserved efforts to meet the objectives and become successful in their education, Professor Fikre noted. He also advised the students to follow the university’s academic calendar strictly and manage their time properly and work hard and take the utmost care in protecting themselves from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Temesgen Birega, Director for the Academic Program Directorate, on his part briefed the objectives of the training and said that the training is believed to have a great significance for the students to become well-aware of the general academic rules and regulations of the university and COVID-19 protocols and directives, prepared by Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Ministry of Health, that will be implemented as a guideline for the teaching and learning process in educational and training institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Dr. Temesgen, the training also creates psychological readiness for the students to continue their education effectively by coping with the challenges and adverse effects created by the COVID- 19 by adjusting themselves in hardship conditions.
On the program the university’s different directorates including Library and Documentation Directorate, Guidance and Counseling Directorate, Students Service Directorate, Registrar and Alumni Directorate and Gender and HIV/AIDS Affairs Directorate have briefed the rules and regulations of their respective directorates and requested the students to respect the general rules of the university and protect themselves from COVID-19 pandemic.
