CCITC Holds Workshop
Ethiopian Civil Service University Center for Cross-Cutting Issues Training and Consultancy (CCITC) held national workshop on Contemporary Challenges of Youth in Ethiopia and the Way Forward on January 26, 2020 at the Hidasse Hall . On the workshop concerned personalities from Federal, Regional and Cities Administrations participated.
On the opening of the workshop Dr. Waqgari Negari, Vice President for training and Consultancy Service Division, welcomed the participants and explained the importance of working together with the youth and paving the way for them to participate in different activities. In his motivational speech delivered to the participants, he emphasized the significant of extensive effort on youth empowerment in all areas and give a due attention to youth-based development programs to produce lasting outcome for the overall development of the country in general.
On the workshop two research papers entitled “Factors Motivating and Hindering Youth Participation in Youth Development Programs in Ethiopia” and “Contemporary Challenge of Youth in Ethiopia” were presented by Dr. Abebe Assefa and W/ro. Kumneger Fikre respectively.
In their presentations, the presenters indicated that the youth has great potential and ideas that can make a big difference. However, they are facing many challenges that hinder their participation in different activities. According to presenters- unemployment, irregular migration, quality of higher education, substance abuse, social media abuse and harmful traditional practices are the major challenges that youths are facing in the contemporary situation.
In addition, they also recommended the need to give priories to design program activities that meet youth personal goals and encourage family involvement in youth development program as well as healthy youth relationships.
Participants on their part expressed their appreciations for ECSU for organizing the workshop and discussed on a number of issues related to the challenges of the youth and the way it is being considered based on the experiences from their respective institutions. They also forwarded ides that need to be incorporated in the youth development programs.
