Certificates given to Fire Prevention and Fighting Trainees
Certificates were given to twenty nine participants of a five-day fire prevention and fire fighting training on June 28, 2013.
The training was conducted by the Addis Ababa Fire and Emergency Prevention and Rescue Agency and Training Institute from April 15-19, 2013.
Speaking on the occasion, Head of ECSU Center for Academic and Professional Development (CAPD), Yeayneabeba Andualem said, “A fire accident can destroy lots of resources at once and the scar it leaves cannot be easily removed. We have to prevent such accidents before they occur.”
He further said unless for instance dormitories, kitchens, the university data center are protected from fire accidents, fire can cause a lot of loss and destruction. He underlined the need to incorporate fire prevention as part of the university’s annual plan. He also called upon the trainees to train many other employees as trainers of trainees. Yeayneabeba said.
“We will arrange training programs for you so that you can train other colleagues,”
The trainees on their part indicated the need to change the expired, old and useless fire extinguishers at different corners in the university campuses. “Even if we are trained to fight fire, without the extinguishers we can’t make a difference,” Behailu, one of the trainees, said. He also underscored the need to include fire prevention in the orientation of fresh students whenever they join the university.
Advisor of the President, Demis Merid, handed certificates to the participants of the training.
