Consultative Workshop on Draft Indicators Held
The first consultative workshop on draft indicators of State of Ethiopian Cities, which was organized by State of Ethiopian Cities Report Project Office, held on Thursday, 31 July 2014 at Renaissance Hall, Ethiopian Civil Service University. The workshop brought together sixty scholars drawn from Ministry of Urban Development, Housing and Construction, Ethiopian Civil Service University, Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa and Surrounding Oromia Integrated Development Plan Project Office, different bureau`s of Addis Ababa City Administration and Federal Ministries offices. In the workshop, draft indicators developed for the five broad thematic areas were presented and subsequent discussion held.
Ato Yitbarek Mengiste, Head, Policy Coordination Bureau of Ministry of Urban Development, Housing and Construction thanked the participants for attending the workshop. The objective of the workshop is to discuss on draft indicators developed to assess the status of 27 main cities in socio economic and other conditions. According to Ato Yitbarek, MUDHC wants to put (lay) targets for the next 10 years in the main urban development indicators in line with the country`s vision to be a middle income nation by 2025, which makes it easy to effectively incorporate urban sector development targets in the second GTP. The workshop is organized to discuss on the proposed indicators for collecting base line information for the five Broad Thematic Areas, said Ato Yitbarek. He also said that Ethiopian Civil Service University is chosen to serve as consulting firm because it is believed to execute the job with high standards.
After the presentation the participants grouped in to five syndicates and held discussion and come up with their findings for presentation. According to Ato Tilahun the discussion was so useful in bringing new insights in the fine tuning of the indicators.
