CREI Holds 12th In-Campus Seminar
Ethiopian Civil Service University, Center for Research in Ethics and Integrity held its 12th in- campus Seminar on December 19, 2018 at Hidasse Hall. The seminar was held with a theme “Substance Use and Professional Life”
Dr. Dawit Wondimagegn, the speaker in the seminar thanked the University for the chance given to him to speak on the timely subject “Substance Use and Professional Life”. He also appreciated the university’s trend to invites different scholars to speak on different issues in addition to the regular academic discussions conducted as a higher educational institution.
In his explanation, Dr. Dawit explained the interconnections among thinking, internal feeling and behavior. According to him, this interconnection defines the normal and professional life of individuals. The life style in our contemporary world is changing through time. There are many things that create stress in day to day life of individuals. Using substances for excitement became major preference by many people to get out of these stresses. Using such substance has a high disruptive influence by losing the control of the individual over the substance. This in tern affects the professional life of individuals and driving for a break of ethical issues. He also gave detailed explanations for issues raised by participants by referring to various issues from his huge professional experiences.
Dr. Dawit Wondimagegn is a Chief Executive Director of the College of Health Science, with the status of vice President for Addis Ababa University. He is an associate professor of psychiatry at the department of psychiatry, School of Medicine, College of Health Science at Addis Ababa University and a Consultant Psychiatrist and psychotherapist at Tikur Anbessa Hospital.
Dr. Dawit has served Addis Ababa University under various capacities which included, Department Headship, Associate Dean for the School of Medicine and Associate Director for the Graduate Programs at the College of Health Science. He was also the sole leader of a new postgraduate program in Family Medicine. A poet and novelist, Dr. Dawit, has published extensively in the area of mental health, mental health policy, psychotherapy adaptations, ethics and culture and mental health along with his poem and novels.
