ECSU Academic and Administrative Staff Plant Trees
The academic and administrative staff of Ethiopian Civil Service University planted tree seedlings in two campuses of the university on August 22, 2013. The seedlings were planted to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of the late Prime Minister of Ethiopia Meles Zenawi and implement his vision of Green Development StrategY.
While launching the tree planting, Academic Vice President of ECSU Dr. Samson Kassahun said Prime Mister Meles Zenawi designed the Green Development Strategy to ensure rapid and sustainable development. He recalled that the late prime minister was emphasizing the need for Green Development representing Africa in different international forums. He said planting trees has economic advantages in addition to its benefit of conserving the environment. He said,
“We are here today to practically implement one of the Green strategies which is planting trees.”
Dr. Samson further noted that ECSU was established to build the capacity of the civil service as civil servants are the key actors to implement government policies and strategies.
He said, “We will renew our commitment to realize the vision of Prime Minister Meles with regard to reforming the civil service.”
The employees of the university that were gathered to plant the seedlings vowed to serve their country by implementing the civil service reform programmes designed by the late Prime Mister Meles Zenawi.
