ECSU and Addis Ababa University are executing a project in Collaboration with Karl-Franzens University of Graz /Austria
Ethiopian Civil Service University Institute of Federalism and Legal Studies and the Addis Ababa University Center for Human Rights have been established academic partnership on Legal and Human Rights Education with the University of Graz- Institute of International Law and International Relations in Austria.
Based on the collaboration Ethiopian Civil Service University Institute of Federalism and Legal Studies and the Addis Ababa University Center for Human Rights jointly host the Academy and Research workshop under the theme 'Good Governance and Human Rights: International and African perspectives' and 'Human Rights and Good Governance in Ethiopia/Africa: Normative Frameworks and Practices' respectively from September 24 to October 05, 2012.
Dr. Samson Kassahun Academic Vice President of ECSU on his opening speech said
" the research workshop is part of the project components on which partnership built on such as co-teaching, assistance in curriculum development, supervision of Ethiopian PhD candidates at the University of Graz which are intended to enhance the teaching, research, training and management skills of the Institutions"
The objective of the research workshop is to develop research topics that will eventually researched by the participants after a critical discussions on the abstracts.
Besides building the capacity of the institutions in research, the research theme 'Human Right and Good Governance' will have a significant contribution in realizing to become a country where democratic rule and, good governance reign, he added. Dr. Samson Kassahun finally thanked Institute of International Law and International Relations of University of Graz for their collaboration and the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) in financing the research workshop and other projects.
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Benedek, Head of Institute of International Law and International Relations in University of Graz on his part said,
"the research workshop is a particular opportunity to bring together those who are actively involved in research and who would like to present and discuss their work in a common way."
He also said that those contributions will be invited to publish in an internationally peer- reviewed book and a second round of academy workshop will also be organized in 2013.
According to Dr. Solomon Abay, Director for Institute of Federalism and Legal Studies and organizer of the workshop, 17 concept papers will be presented in the workshop that focused on Human Rights and Good Governance in Ethiopia by participants drawn from different Universities of Ethiopia law schools. During the workshop thorough discussion will be conducted on the papers and this will help the participants to refine their research topics he added.
