ECSU and FES to Work Together
Ethiopian Civil Service University President Professor Fikre Dessalegn discussed with Mr. Constantine Grund, the Country representative of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Ethiopia on May 4/2017 at Senate Hall. The discussion focused on the Book Project and other issues.
Professor Fikre in the occasion explained about the University- what it is doing, the number of staff and students and the programs in the University. He described the university as a public university striving to produce competent civil servants through education, training, consultancy, research and community services. He also expressed his enthuse to work with FES.
Mr. Constantine Grund on his part expressed his happiness to get the opportunity to talk to the University president. According to him Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung has 95 years of establishment history and one of the oldest institution in Germany. "We are in Ethiopia since 1992. We are here to support the democratic development strategy of the government. We do capacity building training, and organize policy dialogue, leadership development. We are delighted to participate in this book project. We consider ourselves as partners not as sponsors," said Mr. Constantine Grund.
Dr. Birhanu Beyene, Director of African Institute of Governance and Development of ECSU and the initiator of the book project thanked Professor Fikre for giving green light for continuation of the project and Mr. Constantine Grund for his organization`s firm stand to support and partner with the university in the book project.
Professor Fikre finally urges Mr. Constantine Grund to use the experts and facilities of the University when they prepare dialogues, trainings and discussions.
The book project seeks to be a bold effort towards facilitation of better understanding of existing electoral norms and practices across the region by seeking to stimulate conversations the phenomenon and distilling lessons from current experiences with the view to gradually enhancing electoral governance in the Horn of Africa and East Africa, now and in the future.
The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) is a non-profit German foundation funded by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, and headquartered in Bonn and Berlin. It was founded in 1925 and is named after Germany's first democratically elected President, Friedrich Ebert.
