ECSU Celebrated the Teaching Learning Day
The Ethiopian Civil Service University Celebrated the Teaching Learning Day, the first ever in the University’s history, on November 19, 2010 at its main premises with the presence of the University President, Academic Vice President, instructors, staff and students.
On this remarkable day the University gave Teaching Learning Recognition Award for six best instructors drawn from four institutes and one centre. The recipients were selected based on their competence and commitment on duties and responsibilities they are given.
Opening the gathering Ato Ayeneabeba Andualem, Director of Centre for Academic and Professional Development said
"today’s teaching learning day is a day in which we recognize our teaching staff who registered remarkable results in the teaching learning process by applying student -centered teaching learning approach, continuous assessment etc."
He added that the celebration also aimed at initiating the University community to internalize the University’s mission, vision and values, and register remarkable results in their day to day activities.
Ato Ayeneabeba further said since its establishment the University has graduated thousands of civil servants in the regular, distance and continuing education, and short-term training programs. These graduates are contributing a lot in the development and growth of the country both at federal and regional level.
The Honorable Dr. Hailemichael Aberra, President of the University on his part said
"the main objective of today’s teaching learning day in the first place is to stop and think and evaluate our work in relation to quality performance not only in teaching but also in research, consultancy and academic and administrative activities, Secondly to recognize the teaching staff who have performed better this year. In the future we will include best performances in research, consultancy, training and other support activities."
Dr. Hailemichael added last year we completed the study of Business Process Reengineering through which we evaluated our entire program, work process, and organization. This year we have started focusing on the balanced score card by adapting ways of measuring our performances.
He further said that our country is in the process of transformation and growth. The staff is contributing a lot for the development of our institution and our country, further more it is important to perform our duties at high quality level to meet the country’s transformation goal. It is for all these reasons that we recognized our teaching staff, said the president.
Dr. Assefa Fisseha from Institute of Federalism and Legal Studies, Dr. Emmanuel G/Yohannes from Centre for Academic and Professional Development, Mr. Ounnuny JoyKuty from Institute of Tax and Customs Administration, Mr. Bersisa Kacho from Institute of Public Management and Development Studies, Mr. Lissane work Sileshi and Gezahegne Debebe from Institute of Urban Development Studies are recipients of the Award.
