ECSU Celebrates International Women’s Day
Ethiopian Civil Service University and Yeka sub city, woreda 09 Women, Children and Youth Desk jointly celebrated the 38th International Women`s Day (March 8) on 26th March, 2014 at woreda 9 youth center hall. ECSU`s academic and administrative staff, students and residents of woreda 09 attended the event.
During the celebration head of Women, Children and Youth Affairs Desk of woreda 9, W/ro Sinkinesh Moges said that the importance of marking this day goes beyond appreciating the work of those who have defended women’s rights. It is also about recognizing women who have their foot prints in history.
W/ro Abay Akemachew, Head of Center for Gender and Development of ECSU, said empowering women through women focused activities enhances the gender mainstreaming process. In line with this, continuous training was offered by the university on gender mainstreaming, assertiveness skills, as well as leadership.
ECSU is working hard to enlighten committed women to reach on top positions which can make the gender mainstreaming efforts fruitful. The UN prize that ECSU won shouldn’t be left unmentioned, W/ro Abay underscored.
It was to be recalled that ECSU and Yeka sub city woreda 9 Women, Children and Youth Desk had celebrated Women`s day in the University`s compound previously. In the occasion, they reaffirm their commitment to work together to assure equality of women.
