ECSU Celebrates its 20th Anniversary
Ethiopian Civil Service University celebrated its 20th Anniversary on April 23 and 24/2015.The event was marked by a series of programs and activities which included panel discussion, exhibitions and PhD, and Masters Graduation in Diplomacy and International Relations and other sporting and entertaining activities.
Before she hand in degrees to the graduates, W/ro Aster Mamo with a rank of Deputy Prime Minister Good Governance and Reform Cluster coordinator and Minister of the Ministry of Civil Service said in the occasion that
"the University is one of the pioneer institutions which played a key role in the modernization of the civil service of the country."
The specialized educational programs, trainings, consultancy, research and community services which are directly related to the civil service sector enable the civil servants to contribute in the ongoing transformational journey of the country, added Aster. Aster also said,
" above all, the University`s efforts for the prevalence of equal opportunity and development in emerging regions is commendable. "
She finally thanked the University community for working hand in hand for common goal- realization of the University`s objectives. " On behalf of the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Republic Government and myself, I would like to urge you to double efforts to put the University to highest level possible, " said W/ro Aster.
"in its effort to build the capacity of fellow African civil servants, the University has given scholarship to forty civil servants from Somali Land and they are now contributing their share in their country`s development efforts. Some 103 civil servants are pursuing their education from South Sudan, Somali Land, Punt Land and Djibouti. "
In the panel discussion moderated by Professor Mengesha Admasu, president of Gonder University, four topics were presented. They were - the Contribution of Ethiopian Civil Service University in building capacity of female civil servant, the role of Ethiopian Civil Service University in building the capacity of Ethiopian civil servants, the contribution of Ethiopian Civil Service University in building the capacity of the disadvantage regions. Ato Ewnetu Bilata, State Minister of Federal Communication Affairs Office, W/ro Hirut Delebo, Director for Women, Youth and Children Affairs in Ministry of Federal Affairs, W/ro Abay Akemachew, Director for Center for Gender and Development in the University, Dr. Ojulu Okuku,PhD graduate and Gambela Regional State Management Institute Director were the presenters. After the presentation, the participant of the panel discussion raised their opinion and questions to the panelists.
Sixteen PhD candidates in three programs and twenty two Masters Candidates in Diplomacy and International Relations graduated in the occasion. Different entertainment and sporting activities were also part of the celebration.
A minute of silence was observed to honor the Ethiopians brutally killed by IS in Libya.
