ECSU Chosen to be one of the Champions for HeforShe Campaign
Dr Mulugeta Debebe, vice president for training and consultancy chosen as one of the male champions to join the HeforShe Movement by representing Ethiopian Civil Service University in a colorful event which was attended by Senior Government Officials, Diplomats, the UN Resident Coordinator, the UN Country Team Heads of Agencies, and Representatives from the Civil Society Organizations, Representatives from the Private Sector, Representatives from Universities and the Academia, Religious and Community Leaders and the Media.
Dr Mulugeta said that ECSU is committed to the empowerment of female civil servants since its establishment. In recognition to its efforts, United Nation awarded the University at the public service day celebration held in Manama Bahrain in 2013. The award recognizes the University`s efforts in Promoting Gender Responsive Delivery of public services. Dr Mulugeta added the University has already launched a center that addresses gender inequality issues years ago and brings change in the public service sector. And we want to see HeforShe Movement moving forward, besides the University is willing to work in collaboration with United Nation to make real differences, said Dr. Mulugeta.
W/ro Abay Akemachew Director of center for cross cutting issues said on her part that the University aspires to be center of excellence in public service capacity building in Africa by 2025. This can be achieved through active participation of female admin staff, instructors and consultants.
The aim of HeforShe campaign is to mobilize 1 billion men to accelerate the achievement of gender equality. HeForShe uses innovative online, offline, and mobile phone technology to identify and activate men in every city, community, and village around the world.
