ECSU Community Celebrates 6th Anniversary of the Great Renaissance Dam
Ethiopian Civil Service University Instructors, Administrative workers and Students Celebrated 6th Anniversary of the Launch of The Ethiopian Great Renaissance Dam by Panel discussion and planting seedlings at the main campus of the university on 12 April, 2017.
On the opening of the panel discussion Professor Fikre Dessalegn, Ethiopian Civil Service University president said that Ethiopia is a country known as a water tower in Africa and blessed with natural resources. But for centuries, we were unable to use these natural endowments and suffered a lot under a miserable poverty. To get out of this poverty, our government and the people of Ethiopia have shown their committement. For this, our Great Renaissance Dam can be taken as a testimony to our commitment and capacity to build many other great projects by ourselves Professor Fikre Dessalegn added. He also said that the Ethiopian Civil Service University has contributed more than four hundred thousand birr this year and urged the university community to strengthen their support till the completion of the dam.
A panel discussion that showed voyage of the Ethiopian Great Renaissance Dam was presented by panelist Dr. Atkilit Hagos, Director for college of Leadership and Governance and the discussion moderated by the university president pr. Fikre Dessalegn. In his presentation Dr. Atkilit Hagos, explained the overall achievements made in the last six years. By the concerted efforts of the nations, nationalities and people of Ethiopia, the construction of the dam is now reached at sixty percent. Following the recent restructure made on the design, the hydro electric generation power of the dam has gradually increased from the initial plan of 5225 mega watt to six thousand mega watt and now it can produce about six thousand four hundred and fifty mega watt electric power. This makes the Ethiopian Great Renaissance Dam the seventh greatest dam in the world. It also plays great role in environmental protection and fishery activities. On the panel discussion it is also pointed out that the Great Renaissance Dam created national consensus, great job opportunities and increased domestic tourism and savings. It also created diplomatic victory for our country.
Finally the university community campaign on cleaning the university compound and planted seedlings in different site of the university. The 6th Anniversary of the launch of Great Renaissance Dam has been celebrated nationwide with the motto “Our Great Renaissance Dam, The Song of Our Harmony and Renaissance”
