ECSU Community Colorfully Celebrates May 28
Ethiopian Civil Service University Community Celebrates the 20th anniversary of the downfall of the Derg regime on June 1, 2011 at Kotebe campus. Honorable Dr. Hailemichael Abera, president of the University, Dr. Samson Kassahun Academic Vice President and Dr. Mekonnen Jemaneh Administrative Vice President, the University’s academic and administration staff and more than 1500 students attended the celebration.
Honorable Dr. Hailemichael Abera, president of the University said in the occasion that
" we celebrate May 28 to see what has happened in the past and what is going on at present and think of what we can do in the future."
He described May 28 as the day in which the anti democratic, anti development and anti peace regime is overthrown and the rebirth of the new Ethiopia is heralded. He further said it is also a time in which we renew our commitment for change, development and growth .The depth of the political, economic and social changes we are making is very high, said Dr. Hailemichael.
Dr. Hailemichael finally urged the University community to work hard for the prevalence of good governance and there by fulfilling the development and democratic vision of the country. For this we have to develop our developmental and democratic outlook , work hard and be fruitful in our activities, fight corruption and rent seeking attitudes and acts , strengthen our longstanding cooperation and support and ensure national consensus, said Dr. Hailemichael.
In the occasion a panel discussion was held. Ato Zerihun Yimer, Lecturer at Center for Public Policy Studies presented a paper on "Federal Administration and Development in Ethiopia". In his presentation Ato Zerihun highlighted the meaning, history and distinctive features of federalism. Every federal system has its own features and no federal system is a model for others. So the federal system in Ethiopia is established to answer national oppression, said Ato Zerihun.
Different entertaining programs and testimony of struggle were part of the celebration.
