ECSU gives Training to the Academic Staff
Ethiopian Civil Service University, Academic Affairs Vice President office, in collaboration with the Federal Education and Training Authority gave a two days training on Education Quality Enhancement to the academic staffs from April 8-9, 2024 at Hidasse Hall.
In his welcoming speech, Dr. Lemma Gudissa, Vice President for Academic Affairs, welcomed the participants of the program and briefed the major objective and importance of the training program. According to him, although the problem in connection to the accessibility to formal education at the national level has been resolved, the issue of quality education is still a serious problem and remained the focus area of the education sector. In order to alleviate this problem, the Federal Government and Ministry of Education have been rigorously taking different actions and reform strategies. In connection to this, ECSU has given due attention to the quality of education and exerted its unreserved efforts to deliver quality education, Dr. Lemma said.
He also added that the training helps the university’s academic community to raise their awareness in the area of standardization and authentication. Following the recent differentiation made by the Ministry of Education, ECSU has been differentiated as a Research University and has planned to accredited all the programs of the university in the coming few years and cope up the challenges in relation to the quality of Education it delivers.
Finally he requested the trainees to actively participate on the training and implement it in their teaching learning activities.
Education Training Authority Deputy Director Dr. Dinkuana Neggussa and his team gave detailed training on Quality and Quality Enhancement concepts and practice in higher education, program Standardization and Accreditation and Sources of Data for Accreditation. On the training it is noted that educational institutions mainly in Ethiopia need transparency and it is important to measure the capabilities of students in well-defined and known standard. It is also emphasized to make the issue of Quality education the main agenda of the higher institutions.
Participants of the training on their part, raised different questions and ideas in connection with the issues of quality and how it is measured and held a detailed discussion on it.
