ECSU Held National Consultation Forum
Ethiopian Civil Service University Center for Cross-cutting Issues Training and Consultancy held National Consultation Forum on December 11, 2018 at Hidasse Hall. The Forum was conducted under a theme “Trajectories of Gender Issues in Ethiopia and the Way Forward”.
On his opening speech Dr. waqgari Negeri, Vice President for Training and Consultancy Wing, welcomed the participants of the forum and said that one sided movement focusing on masculine based practices brought about many problems in the past. To address gender related problems, it is important to modernize our attitudes and incorporate both masculine and feminine identity at all level together and go line by line. The discussion on gender incorporates economy, social and political issues in it. Being aware of this, we need to act in a responsible manner and put into practice what we speak in the forums and meetings, Dr. waqgari added.
On the forum a research paper that focuses on history of women’s movement in three periods: pre 1960s, during the Derg regime and post 1991 in Ethiopia was presented. On the presentation the Ethiopian women physical and mental strengths through the history and their achievements were raised by the presenters. The issue of gender and women right struggle through a feminist movement was also the point of the discussion on the forum.
On the program panelists Dr. Genent Zewde, W/ro Roman Gebresilassie , W/ro Solome Tadesse ,Dr. Sihin Tefera and W/ro Bethelhem raised different issues based on their experiences and explained the activities of women in assuring women’s right and their contribution to the development of the country. The house also raised different questions and held an extended discussion on the issue raised by the panelists .Finally certificate of participation awarded for the presenters on the Consultation Forum.
