ECSU HIV and AIDS Management Unit Conducts Community Conversation
The ECSU HIV and AIDS Management Unit (HAMU) held community conversation with the staff of the ECSU Training Facility and Hospitality Management Support Business Department on January 3 and 6, 2013. The community conversation took place in three phases for half day each.
The aim of the community conversation is to strengthen the social mobilization effort by sharing information and responsibilities. It is also hoped that it would help the participants to own mainstreaming efforts, to scale up practices and to have confidence .The participants discussed among themselves and participated actively. It was believed that the participants raised their awareness on HIV/AIDS and on how to protect themselves from the virus.
Forty nine participants were in attendance at the community conversation. Among these 38 of them were women.
Similarly, HAMU held a half day Community Conversation with 19 academic staff members of Tax and Customs Department on January 16, 2013. The participants thanked HAMU for organizing the community conversation and expressed their willingness to work together with HAMU in the fight against HIV.
Many points were raised during the discussions. Among the point raised incorporating the issue of HIV/AIDS in the department’s curriculum to raise students’ awareness was one of them. They also discussed the issue HIV/AIDS from the perspective of tax and customs. Staff members of the ECSU HAMU said that, their department would further continue to work with the tax and custom department and with other departments.
