ECSU Introduces Intranet for Module Management
The Development Learning Center (DLC) of ECSU introduced intranet for module management. E-Learning Advisor of the DLC, Christian Zange, said
"the modularization of the master programs is progressing well and the modularization of the bachelor programs has been started. "
All the modules have many things in common. For instance, they are described following one common standard and they are saved in a single location, the intranet of the ECSU.
In September 2012, the ECSU introduced an intranet for the management of the newly established modular curriculum. With the continuing process of modularization, more and more teachers are now starting to use this intranet for managing and updating their own module documents. Almost all first and second semester master modules can be found there. The first semester bachelor modules and third semester master modules are currently uploaded.
The intranet first and foremost provides a unified space for saving important documents. This allows teachers of ECSU to systematically build up their knowledge base. Teaching and learning materials and description of modules and didactic design are now found in a single location. Hence, it is easy for the different institutes in the university to control the different documents. For example, if teachers leave the university, the hand-over process will be much simpler, as no hand-over of documents will be required. Thus, the university becomes more transparent for its members.
A student account allows students to access the files in a read-only mode. The students can contact their institutes to receive the login credentials. This is only an immediate solution, until the ECSU Learning Content Management System will be launched and supply students with the required information.
But the intranet not only allows for simplified file management. A number of management tools are available to assist in managing university units:The internal blog allows to replace email communication with a more transparent method. This allows to communicate transparently across a unit, without requiring mailing lists. The task tracker helps units to organize their projects and tasks, and follow up smoothly. The calendar can be used to publish important meetings and events at a unit and university level. The list of members enables the members of a unit to immediately retrieve contact information of their colleagues and can be used as a phone book.
According to Christian Zange, in order to simplify the usage of the intranet, these rich functionalities have not been activated yet for most of the groups. He called upon all institutes that are interested to use the mentioned tools and to keep In touch with the ECSU DLC.
