ECSU Public Wing Consultative Meeting Held
Ethiopian Civil Service University held a consultative meeting with its public wings-Federal Ministries, Regional Civil Service Bureaus, and Students of the University on March 9, 2014 in Renaissance Hall, University`s main campus, CMC Road.
In his welcoming speech, Dr. Hailemichael Abera President of the University said that the main objective of the consultative meeting is to incorporate the participants’ opinions and suggestions in our plans in the bid to improve our service delivery in education, training, research and consultancy which ends up in producing competent and responsible civil servants. Dr. Hailemichael also said
" we want you to participate in the preparation, implementation and assessment of our annual and strategic plans."
In the consultative meeting three presentations on: the three years performance report of the University`s five years strategic plan, Service delivery standards of the University, and public wing participation assurance documents were given and the participants held discussions.
After the presentation, questions ranging from graduates’ placement to entrants’ age limits, to impact assessment to satisfaction survey execution were asked by the participants.
Dr. Samson Kassahun, Academic Vice President of the University described the consultative meeting as constructive. In response to the questions and comments raised by the participants Dr. Samson said the University is looking in to ways to benefit the federal ministries` civil servants through continuous and distance learning programmes. He also said that he shares the concerns that some the regional government offices do not properly place graduates based on their qualification.
Dr. Hailemichael Abera president of the University also responded to some of the questions and suggestions raised by the participants. Concerning the age limits of new entrants Dr. Hailemichael said the issue is frequently raised and we will consult the Federal Civil Service Ministry if there is a room to accommodate the questions. He also said "we are carefully examining the ways to restart our distance programme which may include Masters Degree programme."
Dr. Hailemichael finally said we all - the University administration, instructors, senate members, and administrative workers are here to listen to your comments and suggestions. We will work harder to meet your demands. We are trying to incorporate new short term training titles which are relevant to the needs of the civil service system. Dr. Hailemichael mentioned the short term training prepared on Corruption, its manifestations and prevention as a case in point.
