ECSU Receives the UN Public Service Award
President of ECSU, Dr. Hailemichael Aberra, Head of the ECSU Center for Gender Development, Abay Akemachew, Head of the ECSU HIV and AIDS Management Unit, Philipos Petros, received the certificate awarded to the Ethiopian Civil Service University. In the fifth category, promoting gender responsive delivery of public services, the award was won by three African states. Morocco was a first place winner, Ethiopia and Kenya both became second place winners.
United Nations Public Service Award is the most prestigious international recognition of excellence in public service. It rewards the creative achievements and contributions of public service institutions that lead to a more efficient, effective and responsive public administration in countries worldwide. Through an annual competition, the UN Public Service Awards promotes the role, professionalism and visibility of public service.
TheUnited Nations' Public Service Day is held on June 23 each year. The UN Public Service Award has been given since 2003. For the past four years the award ceremony has been held in different cities across the world. In 2010 it was held in New York, USA, in 2011 in Barcelona, Spain, in 2012 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and this year in Manama, Bahrain.
Ethiopia, represented by ECSU, won the award for the first time.
