ECSU to Standardize and Update the existing Curricula
In its quest to fulfill its vision of becoming a leading center of excellence in public sector capacity building in Africa by 2015, Ethiopian Civil Service University has embarked on all sided transformation. A huge infrastructural development which helps to increase its reach to the public and opening new programs are among the development programs taking place in the University both in Addis Main campus and Wolliso. Parallel to this, the university has been engaged in improving the structure and Working procedures by enacting different rules and regulations that improve and enhance the staff engagement in the teaching, training, research and consultancy activities.
On top of all, curriculum revision was the main issues which was raised in almost all meetings of the university`s management councils. However, the issue was not given much emphasis that it was done unilaterally by colleges and departments. The university management decided to conclude this problem in line with the Federal Governments` initiative: Ethiopia: A New Horizon of Hope. The University conducted a meeting to discuss on how the curriculums of all programs would be revised within the next 100 days. The government in its one-page priority dashboard plan initiatives the human capital development is given due emphasis. Improving the new education road map, and improving the organization, quality and leadership capacity of the sector are some of the key facts and challenges to be addressed in 2018/19 budget year.
Professor Fikre Dessalagn, President of the University in the occasion explained why it is important to standardize and update the existing programs curricula and its impact to ensure relevance and applicability. He said the university has played an important role in building the capacity of the public service. However it is undisputed fact that the curriculum must meet the needs and current demands of the culture, the society, and the expectations of the population being served. So we must go with the ever changing demands the current Ethiopia.
The participants raised questions and give suggestions on the 14 key elements put forward for the discussion by the university president. Finally meeting concludes with high sprit to perform the job wit in the stated time.
