ECSU Students` Gender Club Members and Staff Visit Mekedonya
Ethiopian Civil Service University Students` Gender Club members in collaboration with the Univeristy`s Center for Gender and Development visit and present clothing, some amount of money and other materials to Mekedonya center of helpless elderly and mental defectives. On the visit, after presenting the Gifts, the members comfort Benificiaries by being closer, Showing love and Compassion. The people in the center used to suffer from different problems like sickness, homelessness and helplessness before coming to the Center. Speaking on his progress and change after joining the center, Ato Mamo witnesses that
"the service is genuine that brings immediate progress up on the victim for it is full and very satisfactory. "
He added even mentally ill people show from immediate change to total recovery after they join the center.
One of the Volunteers in the Center said that
"the number of Beneficiaries at the beginning was seventy, but currently the number reaches to seven handred.
According to his explanation, the main services that the people in the center receiving are feeding, accommodation, health care etc..."
According to the volunteer who guides the University`s visiting group, the rooms are separated based on the kind of problem the beneficiaries encountered. Different rooms are designated for elderly women and men, fistula victims, mentally retarded and mentally disordered people.
In some of the rooms, we have seen people taking care of others. These people were patients themselves; but now, after recovering in the center, they are able to give assistance to others.
Meaza one of the students in Ethiopian Civil Service University and coordinator of the gender club, Mengistu Vice presidents of students counsil and others who participated on the visit appreciated the genuine initiative of the visionary Ato Binyam who established the center .
They promised to discharge their responsibility by washing clothes of the people at the center in their free time. They finally stressed on the moto which is entertained in Mekedonya center " to help human being, being human is enough! "
