ECSU Welcomes the Newly Joined Female Students
Ethiopian civil service University Center for Gender and Development held a welcoming ceremony to the new female students who joined the University from the Benshangul Gumuz, Ethiopian Somali, Gambela and Afar regional states on March 13 ,2015 at Renaissance Hall.
In her opening speech wr/o Abay Akemachew head of ECSU`s Center for Gender and Development reiterated her readiness to help the students. She also said,
" Our mission is to provide you practical step by step assistance; starting today you should say – I can achieve, I can graduate, and I can do. I and my colloquies are ready to help you in any circumstance. "
She underlined the presence of the University President, Dr. Hailemichael Aberra, as the sign of the top managements` commitment to female capacity building ". In conclusion she said, " Empowering women is empowering the society - empowering means widening the alternatives, creating self confidence"
The University president, Dr. Hailemichael Abera in his welcoming speech said,
" today I am excited because you have joined us. We worked hard to improve the quality of the life of female students by providing special admission programs so that they can learn and serve their community. "
Starting now you will not have time to waste, even a minute. You are role models and others will follow you; serving people is vital and it is a pride".
The president finally said, " You have the opportunity to expand your understanding of various cultural and social issues. We work hard to build a community with people from all background. I encourage you while staying in the university to discuss on different issues, respect each other and participate in different activities. This is a result of our constitution.
Representing teachers, Ato Amanuel Kussia reaffirms his and his colleagues’ commitment to work hard to provide them quality education on a consistent basis. Amanuel also said we used to give every support for female students who came from disadvantaged regions .We will keep on doing this in the future too by providing special preparatory lesson for female students. This is what makes our University unique.
Wr/o Tarikua Mengiste gender expert in Women Affairs office of the Ministry of Federal Affairs welcomed the female students and appreciated the University for the Collaboration with their office to run the scholarship programs.
One of the third batch female students’ representative wr/o Hulule said that I am happy to get scholarship in the university. I have children and one of my children is a fourth year university student. Empowering me is empowering my family and also as a civil servant empowering my region. So the work that the University and Ministry of Federal Affairs are jointly working is very important.
The Ethiopian Civil Service University ran the program in collaboration with Ministry of Federal Affairs. Since 2004 E.C., around 171 female students from disadvantaged regions have got scholarship chances.
