ECSU`s Doctoral Candidates Defended Their Phd Dessertation Successfully
Ethiopian Civil Service University School of Graduate Studies held the second PhD dissertation defense program after it graduates its first PhD candidates in July 2014. Sixteen candidates who had been pursuing their education in Urban Planning and Development, Public Management and Public Financial Management defended their dissertations successfully from Feb. 9 -12, 2015 to fulfill the requirement for Doctoral Degree.
In the defense program, two professors of Public Managemet and Public Financial management from India, two professors of Urban Planning and Management from Kenya and South Africa and one professor from Ethiopia served as and external examiners.
Vice president for Educational Programs of the University, Dr. Samson kassahun in the occasion congratulated the candidates, the University community and the school of Graduate Studies for successful performance of the defense program. He added, we brought distinguished professors from abroad as external examiners to improve our candidates’ theses standard.
" I am happy to see my candidates defended their dissertation successfully. This is the work of the whole university community; we can’t reach to this point and celebrate this moment, if we don’t get the help from the president and vice presidents of the university and scholars who are working with me " ,
said professor Melesse Asfaw, director of School of Graduate Studies.
At the end of the defense program, all external examiners express their appreciation about the process of the dissertation and the hospitality they get while staying in Ethiopia Civil Service University. In addition, they share their academic experiences to the audience in general and to the University`s academic staff members in particular.
In his closing remarks, president, of the University Dr.Hailemichael Aberra said that
"this is our second Dissertation Defense; the number has grown to three fold. It is quite a big number for the civil service of the country as a whole and to the University. "
Everything has ended very well; candidates worked hard day and night, supervisors worked hard day and night, all faculty members of the School of graduate studies including leaders of the school worked hard ,and our distinguished professors and external examiners worked hard. I thank you very much, said Dr. Hailemichael.
