Eighth Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Day Warmly Celebrated at ECSU
The 8th Nations and Nationalities and Peoples Day warmly celebrated at ECSU on November 26, 2013 in the presence of students and staff. Speaking on the occasion University President, Dr. Hailemichael Aberra, said,
“Each of us should celebrate the day by carrying out our duties and responsibilities.”
He said Ethiopian Nationtions and nationalities have become able to equally decide on the fate of the country. “A lot has to be done to build a democratic nation. As civil servants we need to do the remaining work and ensure the continuation of the fast economic development and the supremacy of law.” The president stressed upon the need to fight conservative and rent seekers.
Head of Institute of Tax and Customs Administration, Ababu Defere, said
" good governance and democracy are the foundation for development and civil servants play a key role to ensure the prevalence of good governance, peace and development in the country. "
He said the civil service is a bridge between the people and the government. When there is transparency and accountability, there will not be corruption, maltreatment. Every civil service institution needs to be transparent and accountable to ensure sustainable development in the country. He emphasized that transparency and accountability of the government means the transparency and accountability of civil servants.
Students who came from the different regional states of Ethiopia staged a colorful show wearing their traditional clothes. Awards were given to students who participated and won in a quiz and poetry competition.
