Ethiopian Civil Service Community Grieving on the Death of Meles
Ethiopian Civil Service Community has expressed their deep sorrow over the untimely death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in the interment ceremony organized at the University Premise.
Honorable Dr. Haile-Michael Abera, President of the University, on the occasion said,
" Prime Minister Meles was architect of the federal system that granted constitutional protection to the human and democratic rights of the people, and ensured the equality of nation, nationalities, sex, religion and freedom of worship. "
Prime Minister Meles was laid the foundation of a federal and Democratic state structure that empowered the regions and local community to participate on their local issues autonomously, and ensured the benefit and development of the people at each level.
He added, Meles was a great leader who puts an end to long lasting political, economic and social evils in Ethiopia and led the country to peace democracy and development; and registered remarkable achievements and put the nation forward.
The President said, the vision of Meles in conceiving Ethiopian Civil Service University in 1995, was to make the civil servant, effective and efficient in implementing the policies formulated by the government;to make the civil service transparent, accountable and responsive to perform their duties diligently with the feeling that they are the servants of the people. The significant achievement of Civil Service University in building the capacity of the civil service through education, training, research and consultancy, particularly the capacity of emerging regions and females are the fruits of Meles's leadership and vision.
He pressed further that Meles's contribution was significant to the promotion of peace and security in the horn and to the strength of economic partnership for African development as a whole. Meles thought to Africa and the world that the Neo Liberal philosophy of development is the looser and the new beginning that Africa demand is building the developmental state. He showed African how home grown organic development system can be realized in Africa, while analyze the unsuccessful journey of African counties following neo liberal thinking after independence.
Dr. Mohammed Abdulahi, instructor at ECSU, also speaks on the momentous contribution of Meles to the economic and social development of emerging regions.
The University community has also expressed, though the grief on the death of the exceptional and dedicated leader made them largely disappointed, they reaffirmed their commitment, determination and endurance to discharge their responsibilities to realize the policies and strategies as Meles aspired.
Besides, the University Community pledged to redouble its effort to strengthening the ongoing development, democracy and good governance endeavor in the country.
