Ethiopian Civil Service University’s ILG former Graduates Establish Alumni Association
Former Graduates of Institute of Leadership and Good Governance, Ethiopian Civil Service University, established an Alumni Association on April 24, 2014. At the inaugural Alumni Association Workshop a video documentary, papers on success and challenges in establishing network among the graduates and the Practice of ILG Graduates Placement were presented by members of Alumni Organizing Committee.
In his key note speech Adamu Ayana, State Minister for Ministry of Civil Service said
in order to sustain the rapid economic growth and Prevail Peace and Good Governance in the country, producing competent leaders at all levels , in different sectors is given due emphasis.
It is based on this notion that Institute of Leadership and Good Governance was established in Ethiopian Civil Service University, he added. Ever since its establishment, the Institute is working hard to meet its objectives –tackling shortage of competent leaders in the public sector at national and local levels. Ato Adamu finally said
"the move to establish the Association is important and timely. I hope that the establishment of the Alumni Association will further strengthen your networks with each other and the University, and we are ready to support you in everyway possible."
Dr. waqgari Negari, Director for Institute of Leadership and Good Governance, officially welcomed the former graduates. He also said the Institute will extend its support in their efforts to establish a strong Alumuni Association. Dr. Waqgari in the occasion presented the Institute`s activities from establishment to date
Draft Alumni Association bylaw was presented by the organizing committee. An in-depth discussion held, and the members endorsed the proposed by low with some modification. All the nine regional governments and the two city administration represented one member each and they in turn elected the president, two vice presidents, secretary and treasurer. Based on this:
- Mr. Zyad Rube, from Oromya Regional State is elected as president of the association
- Mr. Berihu Haftu, from Tigray Regional State and Mr. Ochala Cham are elected as Deputy President of the association
- Mrs. Mekdes Tesfaye, from A.A. City Administration is elected as secretary
- Mr. Awet Birhane, from A.A. City Administration is elected treasurer
Dr. Hailemichael Abera, president of the University congratulated the students for successfully holding the inaugural workshop. Dr. Hailemichael advised the alumni to anticipate the importance of alumni association for the members, the sector and the country. Previous attempts to establish alumni association in the University failed due to luck of comprehensive approaches to capitalize on the above mentioned issues. Alumni associations in many countries play great role in the development of that particular institution and the country. Dr. Hailemichael finally urged them to stick with the expectation and display leadership trait and move forward.
