Ethiopian Civil Service University Get Audited by Higher Education Relevance and Assurance Agency
Ethiopian Civil Service University got audited by Higher Education Relevance and Quality Agency from December 27 to 30, 2011.The audit was made on the relevance and quality of the education that the University offered. In their effort to validate the self evaluation documents, the HERQA team composed of five members has visited the university facilities, workshops and laboratories. They also observed class presentations. In addition to the observation noted above, they had a discussion with the President and vice presidents of the University, the University's quality assurance team and other concerned bodies including the senate members.
Ato Alemayehu Seberu, Education and Training Quality Assurance Team Leader to the Institutional Planning and Assessment, said we have availed more than 110 documents and the self evaluation document for their consideration. The self evaluation document submitted to HERQA has highlighted good practices and identified ways in which the quality and relevance of activities of the University can be enhanced.
The HERQA has been in different sections at the University to observe if the self evaluation document worth what it says. Asked how successful they were in achieving their objectives by the External and Public Relation Department, Ato Dawit Kassa, ECSU's External Audit team member, said
"we have conducted the Audit efficiently and successfully. It was a very fruitful session and we are very much satisfied with the overall tasks. I say this because we could manage all the sessions that we put in the programme."
We hold on the discussion meetings; we visited all the infrastructures that we plan to visit; we could manage to observe teaching in five classes; we could get huge number of documents more than we expected ,therefore we did all the activities that we planned to do and I can say that we attained our objectives, said Ato dawit.
Ato Dawit has also capitalized on the cooperation of the staff of the University in accomplishing their jobs. He said the cooperation of the staff in the University is very much appreciable. They availed themselves on time, there was active participation and I would like to thank them for their collaboration, support, collegiality, and openness. I believe they understand that this activity benefit primarily the University. So they did their best to help us to achieve our objectives.
Concerning the submission of the report Ato Dawit said it has its own steps, first we write the draft report then compile through analysis of documents and send to the external auditors for further editing and feed back. After that we submit the draft audit report to the university's president for checking factual accuracy .After doing this we will publish the report and dispatch to stake holders .From our previous experience this process takes three to six months, said Ato Dawit.
Finally, Ato Dawit appreciated the University's commitment to get audited and stitched in time for the process by preparing self evaluation document and arranging the audit visit and availing all necessary documents for the success of the audit.
