Ethiopian Civil Service University Graduates 1352 civil servants
Speaking on the occasion, the guest of honor, Muktar Kedir, with the rank of Deputy Prime Minister Good Governance and Reform Cluster Coordinator and Minister of Civil Service said
"The Ethiopian Civil Service University, as the only higher education institution in the country that has the exclusive responsibility of building the capacity of the civil service; has become successful in accomplishing its mission."
He said the university has opened departments at graduate and post graduate levels that are tailored to the needs of the country. He appreciated the university’s effort to give priority to build the capacity of civil servants in emerging regions. Muktar noted that the university should continue to fill knowledge gaps in the civil service that are not filled by other universities.
President of the Ethiopian Civil Service University, Dr. Hailemichael Aberra, on his part said
"The university has long and short term training programmes that are organized to improve the efficiency of the civil service."
He said In January 2013, the university opened a School of Diplomacy and International Relations. According to the president, the university is also to open Transport Management and Social Security Management departments at second degree level in 2013-2014 academic year. He recalled that the university won the UN Public Service Award recently owing to its provision of special support to female students in general and female students from emerging states in particular.
ECSU has so far graduated over 20 thousand civil servants with first and second degrees and diplomas since its establishment in 1995. It has also given various short term trainings to over 45 thousand civil servants. Among the 1352 students graduated this year, 681 graduated with masters degrees and the rest 489 with bachelor degrees. Nearly 24.4 per cent of the masters degree graduates, 166 of them, are female, while 37.2 per cent of the bachelor degree graduates, 189 of them, are female.
Muktar Kedir handed over degrees to the graduates and gold medals to the outstanding ones.Female students and students with disabilities who performed well in their studies also given certificates of recognition from the guest of honour.
