Ethiopian Civil Service University Graduates 388 Students
Ethiopian Civil Service University graduated 388 students with Bachelor and Masters Degree in regular, extension and distance programs on February 25, 2012. Of these 61 of them graduated with Masters Degrees in Federalism and Local Government Studies, Tax and Customs Administration and the rest 327 students graduated with Bachelor degrees in fields of Public Financial management, Urban Engineering, Urban Management, Development Management and Public Management.
In the graduation ceremony held at the University's Abai hall, president of the University, the two vice presidents, institutes directors, academic and administrative department heads and other academic staff of the University and families of the graduates were in attendance.
Speaking on the occasion Dr.Hailemichael Abera, President of the University, said
" Ethiopian Civil Service University is expanding its services by opening new programmes in specialized education and trainings which build the capacity of the public sector in knowledge, skill and attitude as well as help to achieve the vision of the country. "
He also said the university is conducting problem solving researches and consultancy services to improve the organization and service delivery of the public sector.
Dr.Hailemichael added in its efforts to improve unbalanced distribution of skilled man power in regional governments, the university so far graduated more than 17600 civil servants at diploma, bachelor, masters level and the graduates are currently serving from higher to lower levels of administration. Out of the total graduates 2430 of them graduated with Masters Degrees, 7960 of them with bachelor degrees and 8165 of them with diplomas. The president also said the University provided trainings to more than 42000 civil servants through face to face and via video conferencing modes on topics which are relevant to the needs of the public sector.
The president underscored that growth and development are unthinkable with out prevalence of democratic system, and tolerance and equity are the key values in a democratic system. The federal system in our country will be effective when we develop our tolerance in religion and outlook, so in your professional career and social activities, you are expected to be good models and educate others, said Dr.Hailemichael .
He finally urged the graduates to live up to their pledge to serve the public and fight corruption, rent seeking attitude, maladministration, bribery ,abuse of power or authority and popularize their university in their performances.
The students finally conducted swearing of an oath to serve the public.
