Ethiopian Civil Service University seeks collaboration with Banaras Hindu University
VARANASI: Now the Ethiopian Civil Service University (ECSU) is looking eastward to play a crucial role in agriculture and sustainable rural development that can also give a momentum to the green revolution in the African country.
The ECSU, one of the topmost educational institutions in Ethiopia, wishes to enter into a joint collaboration with the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) for research work and student exchange programmes.
" India and Ethiopia bear a lot of similarities as far as agriculture and rural development are concerned. We are trying to replicate India's progress to help our country develop in these fields"
said Haile Michael Aberra, president, ECSU, while talking to TOI on Wednesday.
Aberra is in the city on a three-day visit to BHU for exploring avenues and establishing educational ties with the university.
Dr Aberra is also one of the invited speakers for the three-day international seminar on technology, energy and sustainable rural environment that began on BHU campus on Wednesday. The seminar is being organized by the varsity's geography department.
Saying that nearly 80% of Ethiopian population depends on agriculture, he emphasized that there is a lot of scope for joint collaboration in agriculture and rural development, besides coming up with eco-friendly green technologies to help the two countries.
He said,
"We want to strengthen educational ties with the BHU by promoting staff exchange, student exchange and starting other mutual beneficiary programmes. We are also looking forward to come up with mutually beneficial programmes like video conferencing and joint research endeavors to bolster educational ties."
There is good scope for technology transfer in optimum utilization of renewable energy resources including hydro electric, wind, solar and thermal power generation, he said.
