HAMU Continues Its Awareness Creation Activities
The training was provided by Dr. Girma Alemayehu. The main issues discussed include the importance and benefits of family planning, the methods of family planning, and prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
The training held on March 13, 2015 focused on equipping the participants with Basics of HIV/AIDS and the concepts of networking, the benefits of networking, the stages students need to follow in order to build effective networks, and the do’s and dont’s of networking.
The training was given by Mr. Anteneh Mekonnen, HAMU’s Research Coordination Officer and Ms. Kumneger Fikre, Social Mobilization and Mainstreaming Expert.
In related development HAMU Provided Training on “Basics of HIV/AIDS and Peer Education” to Members of the Student Council on March 27, 2015. In the training the participants were introduced with the basic facts about HIV/AIDS, the major channels of HIV transmission, its prevention mechanisms and how to provide care and support for people infected/affected by HIV/AIDS. The major points discussed include influential models of behavioral change, communication and its components, and qualities of peer educator. They were also given ideas on how to share knowledge gained in different ways. As members of the Student Council, the trainees are responsible to share what they have obtained from the training to their fellow students. Hence, techniques relevant to peer education were covered in the training.
