HAMU Gives Training for 71 Anti-Aids Club Members of the University
HIV/AIDS Unit (HAMU) gave half- day training for the ECSU Anti –HIV Club members on September 31, 2014 on basics of HIV / AIDS.
At the opening of the training session Wrt. Wubalem Arefayne, HAMU head, said that
" the training is very important for the club members to have a comprehensive knowledge on HIV/AIDS. "
She also emphasized that the trainees are responsible to integrate them with the society around their areas to reduce transmission of HIV /AIDS and better serve the clients of their organization.
Ato Anteneh Mekonen , the trainer and HAMU HIV /AIDS training and research coordinator, said that
"this training will help a lot for the trainees to acquire knowledge on the transmission and preventive method of HIV/AIDS and how to create public awareness about HIV/AIDS and to avoid stigma and discrimination in a surrounding those affected with HIV/AIDS . "
He added, “You must be trainers when you return to your area. “
During the discussion with the trainees , Ato Anteneh said that most of our people do not know their status to HIV ,so HIV screening is becoming part of routine medical care for all persons .So you are responsible to teach what you gain from this training . In the coming days, HAMU plans to give different trainings for the club members and you should share to your groups in your class.
At the end of the training , Anteneh announced that they are not only the club members , as a civil servants , you are responsible to improve the health of the people living with HIV ,linking persons with HIV to medical care ,treatment and preventive service and reduce the risk of HIV transmission . Reduction in deaths among person living with HIV /AIDS, reduction in newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS and reduction in mother –to-child transmission of HIV is the goal for the trainees.
HAMU focuses on coordinating all HIV/AIDS related trainings, research, education and consultancy services in the university.
