HAMU gives Training on Gender Dimension of HIV/AIDS
ECSU HIV/AIDS Management Unit provided half day training for 27 students drawn from different departments of the university on November 2, 2016.
The training was basically provided on two different areas- Gender concepts and Dimension of HIV/AIDS – included the topics- introducing and discussing the basic difference on sex and gender, concepts of gender socialization and gender division of labor, gender stereotypes, genderequality and equity facts, women’s vulnerability to HIV/AIDS.
Miss Wubalem Arefaine, head of HAMU, said that Special emphasis must be given to the knowledge, skill and attitude required to bring about the needed behavioral changes in regards to abolishing gender stereotypes which is a main cause for predisposing factors for women to be more vulnerable and Susceptible to HIV/AIDS than their male counterparts.
‘This training is believed to equip/capacitate of students with the knowledge, attitude and skills required to aware themselves and others on how women are greatly affected by the epidemic and how they can be protected’added Ms. Wubalem.
Students were actively participated and reflected their ideas during the half day training provided by the Unit. The training was given by Ms. Wubalem Arefaine .
