HAMUProvides Peer Education Training For ECSU Staff Members
HAMU provided training on “Peer Education on HIV AIDS” for sixty five ECSU administrative staff members in three rounds.
The first round was given on August 14, 2015 for 27 female staff members drawn from Students Hospitality Services. The second round was given on August 21, 2015 for 25 General Service staff members and the third round was given on August 28, 2015 for 13 staff members drawn from different departments.
The trainees have already taken the “Basics of HIV/AIDS” training prior to the peer education training. Ms. Kumneger Fikre, the trainer and Social Mobilization and Mainstreaming Expert of HAMU said that the purpose of peer education training is to equip trainees with the necessary knowledge, skill and attitude regarding peer education. So they will be able to take their part in reducing the impact of HIV/AIDS in the workplace.
The topics discussed in the training included the definition of peer education, its benefits and challenges, qualities of peer educators and stages of behavioral changes. The trainees were actively participated by asking questions, reflecting their views, discussing in groups. At the end thy developed short lesson related to HIV/AIDS and presented to the group.
The trainees are expected to promote positive behavior that will foster the development of HIV free community.
