HIGAD Prepares Orientation
Horn Institute of Governance and Development prepared a half day orientation to its first batch of students on 20th October 2015. The students are drawn from ten different East African countries includingEthiopia.
Dr. Birhanu Beyene Director for the Horn Institute of Governance and Development in the occasion said that the establishment of the Institute promotes inter-cultural and religious tolerance in the region so that the bad images of Africa in the form of hunger, famine, instability, war and terror will be extricated. Good Governance is a means to sustainable development, according to Dr. Birhanu. He urges the students to work for the regional cooperation by setting regional development strategies.
Mushabe David Claudian is from Rwanda. He is one of the students who joined the Institute. We asked him what he feels about the program and Ethio - Rwanda relations. He said that he is working in Ministry of Local Governance as executive secretary of Ruhengeri town." The program that I am to attend will help me a lot as local government goes with governance. It is really what I intend to get and I believe I would benefit from the program, "said Mr. Mushabe
Concerning Ethio- Rwanda relations he said: " The common thing that bonds us together is the political will from the part of the leadership of our two countries. The late Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Meles Zenawi is loved by the Rwandans. The strategies and plans to promote good governance, empowering women, and extending education is bearing fruits in both countries. That is why our two nations are becoming few of the fastest growing economies in the world, " added Mushabe.
Different service rendering departments of the University in the occasion introduced themselves to the students. From the students who registered for the program 77% of them are male and 23% of them are female.
