Induction Training for New Academic Staff Given
The Ethiopian Civil Service University Center for Academic and Professional Development gave two half - day induction trainings for about 29 male and 19 female new academic staff of the university. The trainings were held on October12 and 13, 2011.
According to Ato Ayneabea Andualem, Director of Center for Academic and Professional Development, the trainings were designed to provide the new staff with information they need about the university's working environment and make them familiar with the mission, vision and values of the university.
He added the trainings will also help the staff to understand the transformation activities underway in the University, enhance their professional skills and qualities, and be aware of what is expected of them in light of the University's Vision.
The training covers a range of topics, such as course design, active learning, facilitating learning and applying continuous assessment. In his opening speech, Dr.Hailemichael Aberra, President of the University, welcomed the new staff. He said
"I hope you will have an enjoyable, stimulating and professional experience in our university through out your career. I have no doubt that we will grow together in knowledge, skills and attitude and your previous experience will have a great contribution for the university's development."
He added having an awareness of the organization mission and vision is very important for all the employees. Our mission is building the knowledge, skill and attitude of the country's civil servants through education, training, research and consultancy and in the course of which the sector is improving and developing its organizational structure and legal system. Further, it can provide effective, competent and quality services for its customers, said Dr.Hailemichael.
He further said, as a learning organization, we should always consciously plan, implement and evaluate the plan and be able to break free from the grip of backwardness and poverty.
After the completion of this training the trainees are expected to show professional development in the teaching and learning environment effectively, designing courses clearly, applying continuous assessment and enhancing active learning effectively and successfully.
Dr. Dribssa Abate, Ato Eshetie Abebe and Ato Assefa Wubalem gave the trainings.
