Language Command Upgrading Training for Parliamentarians
English language is a key tool government officials at higher administrative posts need have at their backpack.
Director of ECSU's center for Academic and Professional Development Ato Aynabeba Andualem made this remark on 30 June 2012 after handing over certificates to 51 parliamentarians, divided into three groups according to their background, who took Advanced, Intermediate and Basic Command Upgrading English courses at ECSU. The training was jointly facilitated to them by the House of People's Representatives and ECSU.
In a speech he made on the occasion Ato Aynabeba noted while the world is shrinking fast into a global village, competition is picking pace. Not to lag behind taking trainings is therefore indispensable, he stressed. He added nowadays emerging competent in one's walk of life is compulsory.
He said
" there is no a closing chapter to learning as learning is a continuous process and added based on the past there is a need to build the present."
He urged trainees to thirst for more telling them trainers simply show the way and it is the duty of trainees to walk long on the path.
He went on to say a good command of English is a key as it unlocks the gate to multiple advantages. He expressed hope the skill they acquired will help trainees draw experience from different parliaments abroad and also compare and contrast draft laws with other countries.
Speaking on the occasion director of Human Resource Development and Management Directorate under the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ato Wasyehun Beyecha noted that out of the 11 students that took an Advanced 144 hours long training 1 was woman. Out of the 19 students who took an Intermediate 144 hours long training 2 were women. Out of the 21 students that took the Beginners training 8 were women.
He noted as the trainees' work has direct connection with diplomatic relations and striking a deal with foreign officials, a good command in the international medium of communication, English, is crucial.
After expressing parliamentarians have been taking similar skill upgrading trainings at ECSU, he lauded the commendable work the university is doing in scaling up the capacity of government officials and civil servants.
Extending gratitude, a representative of the trainees said
" the training ECSU's instructors gave them in a participatory and lively manner using teaching aids was superb."
She added our indebtedness knows no limit.
At last she remarked the training support ECSU extends to the House of People's representatives should go on in a strengthened manner.
